CU DENVER

Making a difference in students and hispanic community.

WHO ARE WE?

REGION 3!!!!!

SHPE at CU Denver

SHPE at the University of Colorado Denver provides key opportunities for students to become leaders and innovators in their field and inspirational role models for tomorrow’s STEM students. These key opportunities are provided to our SHPE CU Denver students through a variety of programs that are outlined in this packet. These programs focus on professional development and networking, community involvement and outreach, and academic success and retention.

SHPE National Conference

SHPE Conference is the largest technical and career conference for Hispanics and Latinos in the country. Each year, the SHPE Conference attracts over 5,000 engineering professionals, students and corporate representatives. The conference is an opportunity for engineering companies and corporations to recruit top talent from SHPE membership. In addition it provides educational, technical and career opportunities for professional and student engineers.

Regional Leadership Development Conferences (RLDC)

SHPE stages regional leadership development conferences on a yearly basis for the leadership of the SHPE student chapters to improve their organizational, managerial, and technical skills. They take place in all of the seven SHPE regions. This program helps college students develop and improve their pre-college outreach programs and improve the infrastructure of SHPE student chapters. Student leaders learn how to interact and network with SHPE's corporate supporters.

HISTORY

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.

The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.

MISSION

SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

VISION

SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
